Here is a repost of my 14 yr ramble – Last ramble I have written.
I am living proof that a serial quitter can successfully quit.
Quitting is not easy but it is doable.
Keeping up my journey on the Freedom Road!

Hello my fellow quitters

The years are going by and every year it is harder for me to write a ramble as I feel I have already said it all.  Going to keep this short and sweet.

How to create a successful quit – my experience

I never believed I could/would quit – but I did it.
Here is how:

1.	Recognized I am an addict.  I cannot have just one, I must have them all.  Even after 14 years I know that I am and forever will be 1 puff away from a pack a day. (Tossed the 12 yr quit because I did not understand this)
2.	Committed to the quitting process.  Went from serial quitting to refusing to allow there to be a reason to smoke.  Not easy -many tears cried and lots of foot stomping and slamming doors – but I made it.
3.	Came to understand quitting is not a linear process.  I struggled during my early days, started to feel better and around day 75 thought I was losing my mind.  Lived in the north woods.  Was on the phone for online counselling as I just could not stop crying.  The smallest thing set me off.  Counsellor helped.  Talking about it helped.  Giving myself a break helped. I made it through to the other side and realized I could get through things without a smoke.  I had some struggles at 5 years quit – emotional relationship stuff and again I made it through by asking for support, pledging and following the 3 post rule – no smoking till I post and 3 people reply.

I am sure there is much else I could ramble on about but for me, this is short but sweet.  
This serial with support from online quit groups is 14 years quit and has the tools she needs and learned from elders who travelled this path before her.  I am planning on forever living on the Freedom Road – stress, upset and the lies of addiction will not entice me ever again to hand my power over to a white tube of poison.  Smoking is not your friend – friends do not try to kill you.
