Repost: Some Excellent Gummer Reposts
I found this one in the library with 4 Gummer reposts together. Bit of a longer read but well worth it as anything Gummer has to say is relevant and helpful.
Have a good day.

HANG IN THERE!!!!
From gummer on 2/21/2011 12:30:39 PM
These reposts all say essentially the same thing...
(1) Smoking is the cause of your distress so don't ever be fooled into smoking again to feel better - it cannot ever work.
(2) Smoking has done a major job on you. It will take time and effort to straighten things out again, so be patient. You need to allow yourself the time required for your body and mind to return to normal.
So hang in there! It doesn't matter what it takes, just hang in there and you will get through this.

It`s gonna happen

==============================================
Cravings ARE going to hit you out of the blue. That`s the way quitting goes.
It may happen at day 5, or day 27, or day 152... cravings CAN and DO come out of thin air. But never let them surprise you. EXPECT them, and when they do arise, treat them just as you have all the others... SIMPLY DON`T SMOKE. Ride them out... recognize them as a natural part of the process... as a sign of healing and progress...
until they go away. I
n time they will stop bothering you at all. But until you reach that point, do not be discouraged if you`re suddenly slammed by a craving. THAT`S WHAT SMOKING HAS DONE TO YOU. And that`s what you have to go through until you free yourself. Never be fooled into smoking again... because it was smoking that got you here in the first place.
NOT smoking is the only answer. Be patient. Be steadfast. Be optimistic. Don`t smoke. Smoking always, always makes quitting harder... and not smoking always makes it easier.

Cravings... are a sign that your quit is working. They are a symptom that your body and mind are trying to find equilibrium again.
Never be alarmed or discouraged because you get hit by cravings all of a sudden; that is what is supposed to happen as you `detox` and start shedding the addiction. It is clear evidence of progress, whether it be day 1 or day 157.
I frequently see posts desperately looking for advice for something to get rid of these withdrawals... drink huge amounts of water... take extra vitamins... try homeopathic remedies... but the truth is that IF you shift your mind, then you do not need anything.
Stop thinking of withdrawals as a desperate need to smoke, and instead start to see them as cleansing moments that, while uncomfortable, are very effective at healing. Shift your focus, and your attitude, and the way you interpret things.
After all, that`s what is going on... your body is simply convulsing against the poison you have forced upon it. Withdrawals and cravings do not have to be a sign of trouble, because they are really a sign of progress.
See them that way and you will endure them with far greater ease than if you try fight them, or fret over them.

Good morning. 5:55am in my neck of the woods. If the weather person is correct we will get some rain early this morning. Then partly sunny until late afternoon when the rain reemerges. Should be a great NOPE day.

COPD is a progressive disease nothing is going to stop it. I would benefit more in learning about the disease. What to do to prevent the flare ups and the pneumonia that follows. Gonna try it for a few weeks then make a decision.

Are you prepared to fight for your freedom?
Whether you’ve comprehended it fully yet or not (and you will at some point) you have willingly been a slave to your addiction (for how many years?)
How many years did you do EXACTLY what that cigarette told you to do?
How many times did you sit huddled in the rain, snow and heat, sucking on death instead of living life.
How many of life’s joys and essentials did you go without so you could pay for your addiction?
How many of your decisions (your spouse, your vocation, your vacation, where you live) have been determined by access to your addiction?
How much damage have you done to your body, your environment, your family – because big tobacco told you it was cool and you were young and stupid and believed it?
And what price would you pay to NOT get lung or throat cancer? COPD? Heart attack or stroke?
What’s it worth for your children grow up in a smoke free home – and grow up to be non-smokers themselves?
How important is the self-respect that comes with NOT being a slave to your addiction?
How much discomfort would you endure to finally feel good in your body, in your soul and in your mind?
This is not a walk in the park, people. You’re a junkie! And you’re addicted to the most addictive substance on the planet – nicotine.
And the only way to NOT be a junkie is to NOT smoke.
So put on your armor, sharpen your weapons, fortify your ground and dig in your heels. Live here at the Q, post, vent, eat Skittles, chew gum, do puzzles, pound pillows, take a bath, color, crawl back into bed, howl at the moon, rage, cry and scream.
Whatever you have to do…..just don’t smoke.
“Better to die fighting for freedom then be a prison all the days of your life,” said Bob Marley.
The good news is – no one ever died from quitting!
(This kick in the pants was loving brought to you by someone who's grateful for my freedom and wants the same for all of you!)

Good morning. 3:49am in east Tennessee. It's cloudy here and we have a chance for rain. So our May 1st might be wet. It's May Day. Most people associate this day with spring and flowers and dancing around the maypole. I know I did, however in many parts of the world it's International Workers Day. This day in 1886 there were may protests as workers struggled for a 8 hour work day. In Chicago at the Haymarket there was a bomb blast that killed some protesters. Well it's a NOPE day for me. Today I begin cardiopulmonary rehab. Not exactly sure how this is going to go. But know that something has to change to stop the rounds of pneumonia and get me breathing better again. I will let you know tomorrow!
And to those who as are thinking they can't quit smoking....yes you can ...I never want to see a person going through
what smoking contributes to. If you want to know send me a private message and I will share with you!
Y'all have a wonderful day. If you only do one thing today, let it be, being nice and being kind
